Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I have had sudden onset diarrhea for 4-5 days, generally in the first two hours in the morning.I have eliminated things from my diet, but have not been able to identify any specific triggers. I have mild flu symptoms-muscle aches, mild headache. I have kept myself hydrated and am drinking electrolyte drinks. I am not sick enough to stay in bed. Several other people in my acquaintance have similar symptoms.I am not inclined to go to the doctors yet, but do not want to neglect a situation that might be serious.Any suggestions would be appreciated.
General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
You seem to have stomach flue, viral infection with gastrointestinal symptoms. Mostly viral infection gets automatically controlled within a weeks time. So only symptomatic treatment suffices with eating light nutritive food, drink sufficient water that is boiled..with ORT powder (to avoid dehydration).
In case there is no improvement, you have dehydration or increase in symptoms, you need doctor's consultation for antibiotic/anti-vitals/fluid replacement.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale
