What Causes Diarrhea With Redness Around The Anal Region?

Hi doctor, My baby is in mid of 7th month. Last week he had loose motions for 2 days. Had given probiotic, zinc and ors. After that he is pooping for 6-7 times a day. Redness is been around his bum area. Using rashfree cream as suggested by doctors. Sometimes its not to be seen, few a times seen after pooping. Please suggest me how to make him comfortable. Thanks Bhavya

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

At this area, it may indicate several issues and most common are a pilonidal cyst or perianal abscesses. These are inflammatory processes in the sacral and perianal area usually manifested with pain, redness, swelling, fever and pus discharge. Cellulitis is less common and may be present in the sacral area as well. This is mostly caused by beta-hemolytic streptococcus and it necessitates antibiotic treatment with augmentin, or combination of ciprinol+ metronidazole. You should also, apply cold compresses, take nonsteroid painkillers such as ibuprofen and rest. If there is no improvement within 2 days, you should see a doctor and have intravenous antibiotics.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
