Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Different Colors, Foamy And Painful Loose Stools?
Big problems with bowls, they are small like a baby finger, choppy, very small pieces with what seems like foam mixed in it, very seldom regular. Also different colors, yellow, yellow orange, gray, very dark brown and sometimes light brown, I also have a lot of gas, and some pain before very loose stools.
If your symptoms are there for less then 2 weeks you don't need to worry, just make sure you drink plenty, rest and if no improvement in a week you will need to see a doctor.
If the symptoms have been bothering you for longer then 2 weeks you will need examinations to find the cause. A stool for ova and parasites and stool antigen for giardia, a stool culture, microscopy of the stools and fat content examination are recommended. Most of the times these are sufficient tests, if no clues from them the doctor might need to check for the function of the pancreatic enzymes, rule out gluten intolerance or other food intolerance and may sometimes need a colonoscopy.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General & Family Physician
