Hi,
Noted the history about your 20 year old friend developing sudden difficulty to breath due to nasal
choking, and started to breath through mouth and then developed a clear fluid discharge, wants to know the cause.
The commonest causes I can think about are as follows:
Antro-choanal polyp is a large polyp that hangs in the
nasopharynx and can cause valvular blockage of airflow through nose.
This is further confirmed by the fact that there was a discharge of a clear salty fluid as this occurs due to rupture of the polyp.
I would advise him the following:
Consult an ENT Surgeon.
ENT
Endoscopy.
CT scan of nose and
sinuses.
Relevant tests of blood.
This will confirm the diagnosis and may need a surgery.
If anything else is found then it will be treated as per the cause found.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT and General Surgeon
