What Causes Difficulty In Closing The Jaw Completely?

I can't completely close my mouth/jaw. As long as I don't bite down completely it does not hurt, but I can feel slight discomfort up my jaw towards my ear. It hurts mostly when I try to bite down. I have only had this for a day and am wondering if it may be caused by the flu or colds though I don't appear to have either right now.
