What Causes Difficulty In Passing Stools Although Being Soft?

Hi. I am a 65 y/o female who has had problems passing stool for several days. It s not that I m constipated - I can feel soft stool in my rectum, but it feels like I have no muscle tone to push it out. If I take a laxative for gentle overnight relief I have diarrhea the entire next day. Then I go right back to the same problem. My diet/exercise have not changed. This problem has lasted for about a week. What do you think?

Radiation Oncologist 's  Response
Hello,

Change in bowel habit is a concern and should be addressed as early as possible.

Kindly show to a gastroenterologist (the food pipe and bowel doctor) and get yourself checked.

If I were your treating doctor I would advise a colonoscopy as a screening method considering your age and also review your diet and lifestyle to find a cause.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Jatin Bhatia, Radiation Oncologist
