I had lung surgery three weeks ago to remove a non cancer tumor. My surgery was to last 4 hrs but took 7 instead and now that I home Im having trouble swallowing food feels like its getting caught in the back of my throat. The surgeon told my wife after surgery that they have a hard time getting the ventilator in due to my throat wasn t straight so I can only wonder what they did to get it in. What damage could they have done it seems like its continuing on the same path like food is getting stuck every time I try to eat and do u recommend me to see a Ears noses and throat doctor?

Hi,

Difficulty in swallowing after lung surgery can be caused by several factors. In your case, the problem may be due to the position of the endotracheal tube used to maintain your airway during surgery. The tube may have caused some irritation or swelling in your throat, making it difficult to swallow.

Additionally, the surgery itself may have caused some trauma or injury to the structures involved in swallowing, such as the muscles, nerves, or esophagus. This could also contribute to the difficulty in swallowing that you are experiencing.

It is advisable to see an Ears, Nose, and Throat (ENT) doctor to evaluate your swallowing difficulty. The ENT specialist can perform a thorough evaluation of your throat and swallowing mechanism to determine the cause of the problem and recommend the appropriate treatment. Depending on the underlying cause, treatment may include medication, swallowing therapy, or other interventions to improve your ability to swallow.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
