What Causes Difficulty In Swallowing Food?

I have just had an endoscopy because I have been unable to swallow food without it getting stuck and feeling as if it s going down the wrong way. It s affecting my breathing as well. I have asthma and bronchiectasis, but this is different. My asthma medications do little to help. Stretching the esophagus didn t help either. Everything looked ok with the endoscopy, but I am being tested for acid reflux at the present time (Bravo monitor). Should I be seeing a ENT instead of gastroenterologist and do you have any thoughts on what might be going on. I literally went two weeks without solid food

Hi,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.com.

I had gone through your question I can understand your concern.
As per your history you seems to have esophageal spasm at the time of having food.

One of the important cause is reflux esophagitis for it, others can be esophageal webs, hiatus hernia, or tumor but because of endoscopy later ones have been eliminated.

If your food stuks early in throat not blow stomach level you must have an ENT consultation.
What ever be the cause keep the medication for reflux esophagitis to be continued.

Hope my answer will help you and write to us further if you feel any need.
Regards
Dr Muzaffer Hussain Parray.
