What Causes Difficulty In Swallowing Food?

I am a 59 year old male. I just had some issues swallowing a piece of chicken that I apparently didn t chew very well. The doc intubated and scoped me and dislodged the chicken but told me I had some scarring from years of acid indigestion that has narrowed the opening of the esophagus to the stomach. Can you tell me what the dangers are for a procedure to expand the esophagus using a balloon like device? Thanks

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

You are probably having a condition known as esophageal structure secondary to scarring. You have to undergo dilation to overcome the strictures marrow passage. It’s not a complex procedure and does not involve any surgical incision as well. It is done under general anesthesia and through endoscopic approach. Consult a gastroenterologist and he will direct you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query.
