hi there my daughter is 9 yrs old and has been refusing to swallow any solid food for 2 weeks. she will drink fluids and eat icecream, yogurt but she can t swallow if there is any chunk in it.she thinks that it will get caught, and she has had a cough for a while and always tries to clear her throat. she has been to the dr. 3 x for this but the first time we thought her asthma was acting up so we increased her puffers, then we went to dr. again and they checked her for strep throat, it was neg. then we went again and they thought maybe she had acid reflux. i am taking her back to dr. today, because she still is the same. what do you think?
She may be suffering from dysphagia due to infection or acid reflux or steroid inhlaors induced secondary fungal infection or any structures of esophagus or achalasia cardia etc.
Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Drink hot liquids and avoid cool drinks. Please consult with your ENT specialist he will do endoscopy and treat her accordingly.
