My 36 year old son was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid since he was 23 years old. He takes 175 mcg of synthroid each morning. Until recently, he was also taking 300 mg. of welbutrin. This combination was helping him to live a normal life. He has a bachelor s degree and 2 master s degrees. He has a good job as a librarian. But, a few months ago he started having bad stomach pains. He stopped taking the welbutrin and the stomach pains subsided. Now, he complains that he has trouble swallowing and sometimes has trouble breathing and feels like he is falling apart. I took him to the emergency room on Thanksgiving. They tested his blood. He thyroid level was normal. But, his white blood count was just a teeny bit high. They also did a CT scan of his chest and neck. They found nothing in his chest. But, they found a teeny weeny cyst on his tonsils. The doctor prescribed prednisone for 5 days and clindamycin for 10 days. Both are in liquid form. My son is following doctor s orders. But, he still feels like he is falling apart. I am at my wits end. I don t know what to do or who to turn to. Please help us.
