What Causes Difficulty In Swallowing?

I occasionally have trouble swallowing. No particular food. I can be eating along and after several bites it will not go down. Some times it happened with first bite. I usually can cough it up, but a few nights ago I couldn t get it up or get it to pass on down. This morning it happened with my medicine Potassium CL ER 20 EQ MICRO TAB. I break these in two and only take 1/2 tablet per day per Dr. Orders.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

You are having a condition called dysphagia. Detailed evaluation is required to find out the exact cause. Consult a gastroenterologist and plan for an endoscopy. As of now you can take drugs like Omeprazole or Pantoprazole for symptomatic relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
General & Family Physician
