What Causes Difficulty In Urinating After Hysterectomy?

I had surgery last Tuesday laprascopaplywith hysterectomy and my bladder pulled back and attached to my spine. I have not been able to urinate myself and have been cathed. On Friday at Doc s office could not urinate so was re-cathed. I go in again tomorrow. Will I be all right eventually? I am 65 years old and in good health.

Hi,

There can be some temporary nerve issues after surgery, which decrease your sensation (the feeling that you need to urinate). If urine remains in the bladder after urinating, it can cause stretching of the bladder. It can also cause damage to the muscles of the bladder.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Esmeralda Sera, Oncologist
