What Causes Difficulty In Walking While On Keppra?

I was found to lose my ability to walk after being on Keppra for one month. After being seen by neurologists at Mayo Clinic and now having physical therapy four days a week for two years, I am able to walk on my own with help from a cane for balance. I was taken off Keppra as soon as I was seen at Mayo so I was only on it for a month and have had no trouble with carbamazepine, Being 80 years old does not help in the process of rebuilding muscles although I was in good enough shape to play 18 holes of golf before they put me on Keppra

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello thanks for your question

I recommend you to check with your neurologist but levetiracetam definitely does change sense of balance as it's one of its fairly side effects.

Hope this helps.
