Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is due to harmful drug-drug interactions. Consuming alcoholic containing beverages like Vodka, Escitalopram together with Amitriptyline, Gabapentin and Citalopram drugs may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, difficulty concentrating, impaired thinking/ judgment, and motor coordination.

You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications, and also avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving, swimming or operating hazardous machinery if you are into.

In addition, if Citalopram is taken along with Amitriptyline it can increase the risk of a serious condition called the serotonin syndrome which is characterized by confusion, hallucination, seizure, increased blood pressure and heart rate, fever, excessive sweating, shivering, blurred vision, muscle stiffness, tremor, incoordination, stomach cramp, vomiting, and diarrhea. In its severe form, it may result in coma and even death.

You should contact your doctor immediately if you experience these symptoms during treatment. In addition, combining these medications can increase the risk of an irregular heart rhythm that may be serious and potentially life-threatening.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
