What Causes Discharge From The Areola In A Child?

My granddaughter 1 yo, changing her I noticed she kept itching her torso. I checked and noticed her ariola was much darker then the other, dry and flaky. I thought maybe because she has a new outfit. I looked again and it was leaking. Should I take her to be seen? Thank you

Hi, welcome to HCM. Thank you so much for posting your query.
I read your question and have understood it completely.
Being a surgeon, I have seen many such cases.
One thing that I want to tell you is, do not worry. Absolutely no worries.

See madam, it's a normal thing that girl babies have some kind of breast expression in infancy and early childhood. Some express milk, some serous fluid etc..
All these are normal, if the quantity that you have mentioned is seen..
It's a part of hormonal changes which go about In a girl child.
Do not pay attention to it.
More than 95% of the times, they are self resolving and nothing needs to be done for it..

Now, you also told the area is dry. That needs a little bit of care from you.
Please keep it moisturised. Use any moisturised cream and apply. See to it, there is no nipple crack or something which may lead to infection and abscess if unnoticed.

But otherwise, it's a normal thing.
Hope this helps you, and in case you need any further help, contact me.
Take care.. God bless.
