What Causes Discharge From Wisdom Tooth Extraction Spot?

I had all 4 wisdom teeth out, I know the bottom were impacted, but now 4 days later there is a bit of discharge from one of the extraction spots and I have a lump about the size of a quarter in diameter. I worry about infection and was never given any antibiotics. the stitches still haven't came out yet, so I don't expect healing to be quite complete. how do I know if there's infection? should I expect a few days to heal yet?
