What Causes Discharge Of Watery Fluid During Periods?

This is very embarrasing but when i am on my period i get this extra watery fluid that comes out of my vagina. The fluid is very heavy!!! in fact it sometimes will roll down my leg from too much being in the tampon. what is this stuff? Is it normal? is there anyway possible to make it stop being so much?
