What Causes Discoloration And Swelling In The Hand While On Cast For Broken Wrist?

I broke the radius near my wrist 1 week ago, visited the er, and had the bone set. I am 68 years old, diabetic, and hypertensive. My hand which is showing through the cast has gotten progressively discolored and swells as the day progresses. Is this normal?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

No, it is not normal. Your cast is too tight. Visit an emergency room as soon as possible as the cast has to be removed immediately and reapplied.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Varinder Joshi , General & Family Physician
