Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have noticed on the top of my foot, skin discoloration, like a generalized age, a spot app 3 x 4 cm on the lateral aspect. It is flat, more brown than my fair skin. I am of Scandinavian descent. At first I thought I might have bruised it, but it hasn t gone away after 6 weeks. Should I be concerned? It doesn t look like a mole but as a 61 year old female that spent a lot of time in the sun as a teen with minimal sun block (#30 was perscription for albinos) I wonder about melanoma. What are your thoughts?
Discoloration of skin of foot in persons over 60 years of age can arise the suspicion of cancers like melanoma.Any history of increasing patch size or rolled out edges shows an increased risk of cancer.A direct clinical examination is required to identify the cause.Venous ulcers or peripheral artery disease should also be ruled out.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards Dr.Saranya Ramadoss, General and Family Physician
