Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, my 13 y.o.daughter has what looks like a dirt smudge, or darkened area on the front of her throat. It s been there almost 2 weeks. We have tried scrubbing it and it doesn t change (so we know it s not dirt :) There is no pain or tenderness associated with it. She was in Beijing for 9 days and it appeared a few days after arriving there. She did experience airsickness on the plane ride over and said she threw up rather violently. Other than that I can t think of what it might be.... YYYY@YYYY
Most probably it may be Acanthosis nigricans. In this condition, the skin becomes dark pigmented, thick and folded. It may be idiopathic or there may be some cause like obesity, genetically transmitted syndromes.
I would suggest applying tretinoin cream or salicylic acid ointment. Take antioxidants like vitamin E or vitamin C. Cleanse the area with face wash containing glycolic acid.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Ilyas Patel, Dermatologist
