What Causes Discoloration On The Thigh After Placing A Catheter In The Leg?
My mom has discoloring in the right thigh … after having a procedure in a hospital where doctors perform an Angiogram. A catheter was placed through the blood in the leg… and fed to the heart. She had this done last Thursday and the bruising is growing. There is no pain. It the discoloring normal? XXXX

Hi,
The problem is due to leakage of blood while passing the catheter through blood vessel. In normal course it vanishes in a course of maximum 10-15 days. But increase in the size of lesion / pain or fever needs doctor's attention. You can try with gentle application of Thrombophobe ointment (no rubbing or application on an open wound). In case of no relief, consult the treating surgeon.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
