What Causes Discolouration Of Lips In An Infant?

Hi my grandson is now 8 weeks old n I ve noticed his lips r a dark colour. They were not always like this, only from last few days. He was born 6 weeks early but everything is fine, he does not have any medical issues and he s been taking formula milk since birth. Can you tell me why his lips are dark??

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The dark lips in babies can be an indication of something harmless mos of the time. But sometimes it can be an indication of cyanosis. Cyanosis indicates there may be decreased oxygen attached to red blood cells in the bloodstream. I suggest to see a pediatrician to exclude this diagnosis through examinations.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
