What Causes Discomfort After K-wire Fixation?

I can feel discomfort where my K wires are. After the op I(2 weeks ago ) I wore a cast but had a proper cast applied 5 days ago. when applying the cast I felt as though the wires where being pressed deeper into my skin., and since then I feel discomfort. Is it normal? Could it be dangerous?
