I have some discomfort in my very upper left chest area, maybe a couple of inches below my collar bone. Occasional discomfort but a little more painful today than in the last few days. I am 54, play soccer regularly. Played a full game yesterday and played Thursday night. This is not unusual activity. I am a very active person Wondering if I have pulled a muscle but curious due to location.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Discomfort or pain in left upper chest could be due to musculoskeletal injury, however, other causes of pain in left side chest need to be ruled out.
Left sided chest pain is most often associated with cardiac ailments thus cardiac system needs to be evaluated to rule out ischemic heart disease.
I suggest you to consult a cardiologist for clinical assessment and relevant investigations like ECG, echocardiography, stress test etc to assess the cardiac system for any possible abnormality like blockage of any coronary blood vessel, health of cardiac muscle, any abnormality in conduction etc.
If every thing is found to be within normal limits, the musculoskeletal system needs to be assessed to look for evidence of muscle injury like sprain or strain.

Thanks and take care
