Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
2 days ago I started feeling discomfort/pain over my left mid rib cage- almost felt like a bruise (though I am not aware of any trauma, I do lift heavy things in my work). It is sensitive to touch that area & is in a line from my side to about halfway to my sternum (so maybe 7-8 cm). I looked today & there are spider veins there , in the exact area, that I have never noticed before. I did have a mild headache that lasted 2 days earlier in the week. Otherwise I am in excellent health. 47yo female, don t smoke, 1-2 glasses wine/ week.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Pain and discomfort in mid rib region can occur due to various causes like gastritis, muscular pain, bony pain etc. Associated spider veins on skin is suggestive of some vascular disorder. Spider veins are formed in conditions where there is back flow of blood or the pressure in veins is increased. Varicose vein is one such example where the pressure in veins is high. However, general physical examination and clinical assessment of the region needs to be done to confirm that the lesion described by you is actually spider veins.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
