What Causes Discomfort And Pain In The Hair?

Hi! I am nit sure how to explain in the right words but. i will try. I would like to ask your advice on the condition of my hair at the moment. On the top of my hair I always feel discomfort and pain on the scalp. When i put my hair up with a hair clip I don t feel that but as soon as I leave them loose it disturbs. I have a long hair and often it feels like as if they are heavy and there are less hair on top. It gets always open on top as if I lost hair on top and often itches but with the burning pain at the same time. It got worse after I gave a birth. I also have itchy scalp on the back side of my head next to my neck. I often keep my hair up with the hairclip because of my baby boy pullin my hair and putting in his mouth. So I was thinking is it because i do nit give them enough rest? Your advice is much apprecieted!

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your case history, you are having scalp folliculitis. My treatment advice is –

1. Don't squeeze the lesions as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like Fusiderm cream.
3. Take an NSAID (Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) like ibuprofen
4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics like levofloxacin, cefadroxil, and azithromycin taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harshit Bhachech
