What Causes Discomfort Below The Ribs?

Hi there, I get a really weird sensation occasionally just underneath the main area of the ribs where the ribs open up. It feels like something is falling between my stomach and my lungs for a few seconds and then I feel like I need to cough to make it stop. (I was sleeping and just woke up and started feeling this strange fluttering sensation in the diaphragm area) I do have difficulty breathing through my nose sometimes due to nasal polyps and this feeling has just randomly started happening even stronger than it used to. I used to get it a lot after I had done vigorous exercise. At first I thought it was my heart but it seems more near the diaphragm than the heart. Where the ribs are beginning to be more open.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be a muscular pain or costochondritis.

As of now, you can use analgesics/anti-inflammatory combination like aceclofenac/serratiopeptidase for symptomatic relief.

If symptoms persist, it is better to consult a physician and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
