What Causes Discomfort In Eyes After Usage Of Eye Drops?

Hello, I developed an irritation in my right eye. I m not sure if it was from dust or dryness. I don t have a history of health problems. I wear glasses and recently my optometrist mentioned that my eyes are really dry but my eyes didn t bother me until this weekend. I have a little sensitivity to light and was using regular eye drops. I dropped by my local pharmacy as the walk in clinics are closed for a holiday and was recommended to use the polysporin eye drops for stye. However, when I use it, it stings my eye. This is my first day using the drops. I have no redness. It is uncomfortable and it just feels like I want to rub my eyes. I was wondering if it is something to worry about? I probably won t be able to get to a doctor for another 2 days. thank you for your help.

Hi,

The dryness of eyes and sty in the eye suggest incorrect number of lenses (refractory error). There is no use of spectacles as per doctor's advice. I would suggest to have another eye check up to rule out these. Dryness alone can be age wise, secondary to diabetes or some eye related problem. Till you can see your doctor, continue the use of dryness drops (like refresh over the counter) more frequently. Please stop the use of polysporon eye drops till you see your doctor. It may be that you are oversensitive or allergic.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
