Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Seeking info on groin discomfort. Had one hip replaced for severe osteoarthritis and noting the same initial groin discomfort in other hip. Thinking I might be a ways off from seeking medical intervention but sure recognize the same initial discomfort. Do not have pain in actual joint. Thoughts?
I have read your question fully and understand your concerns.
You are right in thinking that your groin pain could be due to osteoarthritis of the hip joint.
Groin pain can also be due to muscle or ligament strain of your hip joint or of your groin area.
It can also be due to inflammation of bursa (fluid filled space) of hip joint – called bursitis.
Groin pain can also be due to an inguinal hernia. A hernia is a small protrusion of the abdominal cavity contents (usually small loop of bowel) through a lax abdominal muscle wall. This can in the initially period cause a pulling or dragging sensation when you walk. You may even feel something pop out, but it would normally reduce/go back when you lie down. Later on when it becomes bigger the pain would be more pronounced.
You could take some mild pain-killers like Paracetamol 500 mg -1000 mg 3-4 times/day (provided you are not allergic to them or not having any liver problems). You can even apply Ibuprofen cream or Diclofenac gel on the groin area to see if the symptoms settle.
I hope this answer has helped you.
Thank you Regards Dr Sunita Sayammagaru
