What Causes Discomfort In Warmer Ambient Temperature?

If there is no window or fan on in a room, I immediately break into a sweat and can not adjust to the temperature. I am also always very hot in the humid hot weather. My face is constantly wet, but my feet are always cold. I feel like I can not adjust to the temperature in a room that is slightly warm. What is the problem with my thermostat?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Some people do have issues with warm temperatures for whatever reason. It may be due to decreased sweating or due to psychological intolerances or hydration status or other factors. Classically, hyperthyroidism is associated with difficulties in warm temperatures. I suspect that what you are experiencing is still int he realm of normal. If you'd like you can check a thyroid level to make sure it is alright. Otherwise, hydrating well can help.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Timothy Wong, General & Family Physician
