What Causes Dislocation In The Knee?

my knee feels like it dislocates whenever i sit with me knee bent or my legs crossed and can some times take up to an hour for it to sort its self out i went to my doctor and he sent me for an xray and he said there was a mild reduction what does he mean by this?
