What Causes Disorientation In An Elderly Person While On Metoprolol?

She is a female - 91 years of age - had hip surgery - December of 2015 - she has afib - takes metoprolol - 2x a day - she is experiencing - from time to time - where she looks like she is out for about a minute or less. I placed cold alcohol towel on forehead - behind neck and on both wrist. She does begin to answer me and completely coherent. She was coming out of shower, walking up ramp and one time having bowel movement. What is going on??

Hi,

First of all, it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, the patient may having a seizure-like activity as she also passes stool at one time.

She needs to consult a neurologist and get complete workup done including CT scan of the brain and metabolic profilr like serum calcium magnesium and potassium levels.
