Hello,
Ciprofloxacin does not routinely cause confusion,
disorientation, depression,
hallucinations, tremors or seizures. But such side effects have been noticed in a few patients. If you have these symptoms you need to immediately report to your treating doctor. You need to be physically examined. The medicine needs to be stopped & substituted by some other medication that suits you better.
Confusion or disorientation commonly occurs due to sudden abnormal brain functioning for a short period of time. This is triggered by some medication you might be taking, infection or trauma.
Sudden confusion may result due to the lack of oxygen in the blood (hypoxia) or due to infection anywhere in the body, stroke or TIA.
Severe dehydration can cause confusion, drowsiness or memory loss. Keep your wife well hydrated & give her home made a nutritious diet. Keep her away from alcohol, nicotine or addictions if any. She can take
multivitamin supplements.
Tremors can occur due to developing
peripheral neuropathy. Get her physically examined by a
Neurologist. Get Nerve conduction tests & nerve biopsy along with EEG done. Get her treated at the earliest.
Neglect may lead to dementia or Alzheimer's disease. Help her stay away from stress, anxiety & depression.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
