What Causes Disproportional Size Of Head With Body?

Hello. I am 19 years old and a year ago I noticed that my head is disproportional (smaller) with my body. But 2 years ago, It was proportional with my body. So is there something wrong with my growth hormones as my body grew taller but my head didnt grow?

Hello,

I am Dr. Saleha and I have read your message in detail, I understand your concern and will try to help you in this.

There are different phases in the growth cycle of our body specially the growth spurt is very unique. In this period of two years mostly 16-19 years of age in males, the body grows at a brisk pace and in this phase the body symmetry can be unpredictable.

Many people get really skinny during this phase ..many may get sudden weight gain . some may get real tall some may not change much, some may feel there is a disturbed symmetry like you felt about your head.

Head usually grows when the growth of body stops, or in simple words when you stop getting tall with that super speed then head starts to get heavy , this is the time when body also starts to recover some weight.

It is also an established fact that when growth plates have met and one is not growing much any more the growth hormone makes head and fingers a bit larger even without acromegaly which is extreme excess of growth hormones.

In my opinion your dysproportionality was a physiological normal process you probably noted that because you must have lost weight and head bulk , after you reached your destination height or near it, the bulk of face and cheeks started to turn back to normal and every thing got in symmetry yet again.

There does not seem to be any hormonal imbalance everything should be fine you don't have to panic and get anxious about it.

I hope this answers your question. If you have more questions, I am happy to answer.

Wish you lasting health.

Regards.
