What Causes Distended Abdomen Along With Difficulty In Breathing Upon Exertion?

I experience the feeling of distended belly pretty much full time. With exertion it gets worse and is accompanied by labored breathing like breathing through a smaller tube and difficult to get a deep breath. The breathing issues resolves itself in 30 minutes or so but the distension persists.

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I have read your description and understand your concern.
It is quite natural that you would have difficulty in breathing when the abdomen is distended. This is because abdominal distention would exert pressure on the diaphragm from the abdominal cavity and restricts lungs to expand and hence causing difficulty in breathing.
You need to find out why distention of abdomen is happening.
The cause can be found out by clinical examination and ultrasound scan of abdomen. According to the nature of cause, treatment can be initiated so that it will automatically help you to overcome breathing difficulty.
Kindly consult Physician for proper evaluation and management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
Wish you speedy recovery and good health.
