What Causes Distinct Chemical Odors In Breath While Having Acid Reflux?

I have acid reflux, and for the last few months I have had the sensation that my breath feels/smells like kerosene or some other chemical. Is this typical of acid reflux. How do I treat it? My doctor prescribes lanosoprazole and anti-acids, but nothing really helps.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,I can understand your concern, in your case may be aspiration of reflexed food contents causing lung infections and chemical smell of the breath.
Try to avoid reflex causing habits like consumption of alcohol, smoking, caffeine intake, coffee ,tea , chocolates and other foods causing reflex.
Maintain minimum 2 h gap between food intake and going to bed, maintain minimum height of the pillow.
If you are obese try to maintain ideal weight by increasing physical activities.
Along with use pantacid DSR once daily morning 45 min before taking any food and antacid syrup twice daily for 3 moths.
And consult ENT specialist to rule out other causes of halitosis.
Thank you
