General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
Good history you have provided. This is not a true Vertigo.
Good that you quit smoking.
The history of pain in the ear 2 days before you started unbalanced feeling.
It lasts only for a few minutes.
This is suggestive that the balancing mechanism in the ear is disturbed and you should get checked by an ENT Surgeon for possible diagnosis of internal ear problem like, Neuronitis, Vestibulitis and so on.
A proper diagnosis will get you the proper treatment in the form of Medicines, rest, antibiotics and supportive treatment.
Till you get alright, DO NOT drive , keep away from flames and stairs. Do not be alone.
