Hi,I am Raju.A.T (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Dizziness And Drowsiness After Taking Klonopin?
The doctor prescribed Klonopin to my daughter for her anxiety. She took her first 1 mg. dose this morning and she was like a zombie most of the day. We cut back to 1/2 mg. in afternoon for her second dose and she was still groggy and unsteady on her feet. She is developmentally disabled and watching her struggle was upsetting to me. Will this type of drowsiness and dizziness last a long time or should it subside in a couple of days?
Klonopin may cause the patients to feel drowsy so very likely the symptoms your daughter is experiencing are related to its use. If she continues to use it her body may get used to the drug and feel less unstable in a while, especially if you reduce the dose a little.
On the other hand, I would say that Klonopin should not be used for long term treatment as it may cause addiction. I would recommend you to talk again with her doctor and discuss other safer treatments for long term treatment of anxiety such as SSRI drugs (for instance citalopram, sertraline, etc).
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal for further medical assistance.
