What Causes Dizziness And Elevated Blood Pressure While On Simvastatin?

Hi. Dr. Grief, I am 67 years old and I have been on Simvastatin 20 mg., once a day for about 2 years now to lower my cholesteral. I have been experiencing perodic dizziness and elevated blood pressure. Could this be a side effect of this medication? I have no other health issues at the same time. Thanks, Jerry B.

Hello. Welcome to HCM.
I have read your question and understand your concerns.
No usually I have not found in any patients having simvastatin induced hypertension.
My advice to you is -

1. It might be an isolated age related hypertension. If it is persistently high than you should start a separate treatment for that.

2.Just go for your lipid profile and ask your doctor to adjust the dosage of simvastatin.
Also do your kidney profile, thyroid profile and blood sugar levels, to rule out some other causes of blood pressure elevation.

Thank you.
Have a nice day.
