What Causes Dizziness And Eye Pain After Coughing Hard?

I choked on some food four days ago. I was coughing for a few minutes to clear my airways and throat but air was getting less and less. I was starting to become unable to cough. I remember my eyes feeling hot and bulging. I started to feel dizzy. My daughter gave me three back blows and by the third I could breath a big gulp of air. Over the next few days my throat and neck muscles started to feel better but my eyes are still quite sore. Aching and if I put my head upside down my eyes feel pressure and bulging again. Is this normal? Do I just need to rest them?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is due to minor muscle spasm after violent coughing.

As a first line management, you can take analgesics like Paracetamol or Aceclofenac for pain relief.

Generally, it will settle by two to three days.

If symptoms persist, it is better to consult a physician and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
