Thanks for contacting with health concern of your mother and following is symptomwise approach:
1. Check for B.P., neck movements,look for pallor and murmur and ask for cochlear symptoms (deafness &
tinnitus), & vestibular symptoms (vertigo &
nystagmus)
2. In old age cervical spondilitis is the commonest cause of giddiness (ask for X-ray
cervical spine, ENT & Ophthalmic checkup. (additionally go for thyroid profile)
3. Till you get the above opinion, general advice for her will be:
. Avoid movements of the head,bed rest
. Avoid caffeine
. Check whether any drug that the patient is taking (if any) is causing giddiness.
. Use cervical collar
. If there are cochlear symptoms add tablet
betahistine 8 mg thrice daily
. If giddiness is associated with any neurological sign, refer immediately to
Neurologist.
. Check with a Cardiologist regarding her cardiovascular status.
