Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi. I ve been on lisinopril/HCTZ 10/12.5 for a week now. I m 30yrs old, 230 lbs, fam hx heart issues. BP before was 136/96 and was fairly consistent. Now it ranges from 120-130 systolic and 80-90 diastolic. I ve had a fair bit of lightheadedness, fatigue, general weakness at different points in the day. Today I had a few bouts of nearly fainting. Symptoms go away after a salty meal, with exception of the near fainting. Salt intake is below 2.5 grams a day. Fluid intake varies. I know the HCTZ can cause hyponatremia and volume decrease. How can I fix these symptoms?
Every one reacts differently to medication, most persons do not experience light headedness ,fatigue and weakness at the bp mentioned but everyone varies with this.
If you are concerned regarding the risk of hyponatremia and decreased fluids, you would have to use additional salt but you may want to determine if hyponatremia is present with a blood test.
Since the blood pressure was just within stage 1 high blood pressure, you may do better on one blood pressure medication, the lisinopril. You may want to speak to your doctor about this option.
I hope this helps
