What Causes Dizziness And Nausea After Taking Ibuprofen?

At breakfast around 9 am I took 2 iduprofan, 200 mg each; because my hip hurt, painful to walk or stand; at 11:30 am I took 2 more to keep pain away; felt a little dizzy so laid down for 45 minutes; when I opened my eyes everything was spinning; tried to get up but was very nauseous; every time I tried to get up same thing; eventually threw up: spent next 5 hours trying to sleep; currently, same thing, dizzy and nauseous; thanks;

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I have gone through the details given. With a comparatively high dose of Ibuprofen there is a possibility of getting severe gastritis, nausea, and vomiting. Because being a NSAID, it can reduce protection to stomach mucous membrane leading to excess acid and gastritis, which can cause nausea and vomiting and even burning sensation in epigastric region and at the back of the throat. Dizziness can also be felt. Therefore, it better to avoid taking the drug on an empty stomach. Or take it after taking a drug like Ranitidine or Omeprazole. Further to reduce your present symptoms you may take a Domperidone plus Omeprazole tablet. Take plenty of fluids and rest for a few hours. Do not repeat Ibuprofen in high dose. If required then take it as mentioned above.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Prabhakar Laxman Jathar
