What Causes Dizziness And Nausea After Taking Metronidazole And SMZ-TMP DS?

I ve had diarrhea for 5 days. My doctor Rx Metrondazole 500mg tablet and SMZ/TMP DS 800-160 tablet. I m dizzy, and nauseous. Is this normal or should I stop taking it and see if there is another antibiotics that will also help my condition. My doctor thinks I may have colitis. Because its the week-end I can t reach the Dr. to ask. My diarrhea has stopped. I ve only had 3 doses. Thank you.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Cannot say in your particular case, but generally, the drugs work on bacterial causes of diarrhea. Colitis is more commonly due to things that antibiotics do not treat. In addition, there can be colitis caused by antibiotics but generally that stays after the antibiotic is stopped. At least for several days after. If the diarrhea stops while taking antibiotics it would imply that they are working.
