What Causes Dizziness And Shortness Of Breath After Heavy Weightlifting?

I had a relatively substantial meal about 1.5 hours before lifting heavy weights. My breathing was wrong during a deadlift and I felt faint and extremely dizzy immediately after. Now, 3 hours later, I still feel faint and dizzy. I ate another meal an still feel funny? Is this serious? or should I just wait it out?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

To avoid shortness of breath and dizziness after weight lifting you are suggested to stay well hydrated, keep drinking water throughout the day and during your workout. Synchronize your breathing with your movements when you work out. Maintain regular breathing, do not stop to breathe between workouts. Never workout in empty stomach, take some food/ snacks about 2 hours before workout. However, if still you experience similar symptoms you are suggested to get clinically examined by a cardiologist.

Dizziness associated with shortness of breath may be indicative of developing coronary artery disease (CAD). Get all routine cardiac function tests done. Get CBC, urinalysis, lipid function tests done so that the pathology can be diagnosed and treatment started. Other medical conditions that cause such symptoms are anemia, dehydration, low blood pressure, low blood glucose, etc. Maintain healthy weight and normal vitals, stay way from stress, addictions if any and take quality sleep.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
