What Causes Dizziness And Vomiting In An Elderly Person Suffering From Diabetes?

My mom got light headed and dizzy then threw upthis afternoon and thought it was vertigo. She drank regular ginger ale and had a bonnie to stop dizziness. She felt a little better and her sugar went from 188 this afternoon at 1 to 480 tonight. She is on insulin for years and the last year has been having problems keeping her levels good. She is 76 years old and in pretty good shape. Should I bring her to the er or let her sleep now that she is sleeping.

Hi,

Yes, you need to take your mom to the ER since her blood sugar levels are very high. Sugar levels of 480 is considered very high and can cause symptoms like dizziness and vomiting as you have mentioned. Immediate reduction of sugar level with insulin infusion should be done. This will reduce the high sugar and prevent the diabetic complications like diabetic ketoacidosis.
