What Causes Dizziness, Imbalance And Hearing Loss While Having Diabetes?

I am a 59 year old female with diabetes since age 5. For over a year now and I have consulted my physician, if I close my eyes or if someone turns off a light and I am in the dark, I get very dizzy and fall. My physician says it is nothing to be concerned about but this bothers me very much. I do not have any problems with my hearing or my ears. Am I wrong to be concerned this way? Thank you for your response.
