What Causes Dizziness Post Exposure To Paint Fumes?
We had my daughter s (15 years old) bedroom painted a week past Friday with oil-based paint. she started sleeping in it on Wednesday night but is complaining of feeling light-headed and dizzy all the time now, even when not in the room. Is it related to the paint and/or should she visit GP?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
It looks like toxic reaction to inhaled paint fumes. Do not let her stay or sleep in the room, keep all the doors and windows open so that the room gets freed of the paint fumes. Headache, drowsiness and lightheadedness can occur post exposure to hydrocarbons, kerosene or paint fumes. Let her take a bath and feel fresh.
She will be fine, let her stay in a well ventilated place, take her to some outdoor park so that she can breath in fresh air. Symptoms should subside after a while, but if she continues to have problems see a PCP. No specific treatment is there but she can get symptomatic treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K.
