What Causes Dizziness, Shakiness And Lightheadedness?

Hello, I am about 300 lbs, 6 ft 1-2, 31 years old, have not been eating a very healthy diet and have recently gained back about 60 pounds that I lost a couple years ago. Lately I have been experiencing dizziness, shakiness and getting very lightheaded. This has happened before in the past, but lately it has been happening a couple times a week. i cannot tell if it is from coffee, my diet or my weight. I was wondering, is it a symtom of diabetes? Is this a symptom of something else serious?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,

The symptoms as mentioned in your post can be attributed to sudden fluctuation of blood sugar levels due to underlying undetected diabetes, as suspected by you.
A fresh estimation of blood sugar level (fasting as well as postprandial) will be helpful in clinching the diagnosis.

Other causes for your symptoms can be:
1. Any pathology in the vestibular apparatus in inner ear (it is associated with maintenance of body posture & balance)
2. Any fluctuation in blood pressure levels (such as Postural Hypotension)
3. Deficiency of certain nutrients like Iron, Vitamin B 12, Calcium, etc. which interferes with blood formation & nerve conduction

So, kindly consult your Physician & get a complete clinical examination done.

There is no need to worry, you will be fine.
Till then, maintain adequate hydration & proper nutrition status and avoid stress.
Wishing you a Good Health.
Take care.
